RACIO (Regional astronomical center for research and education) is consortium between the three leading astronomical institutions in Bulgaria: the Institute of Astronomy and National Astronomical Observatory of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the Department of Astronomy of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridiski” and the Astronomical Center of Shumen University “Konstantin Preslavski”.

The main goal of RACIO is to providing free access to modern observational facilities and e-infrastructure, available or planed; by improving the working conditions and attracting new researches; by facilitating and organizing astronomical training schools and workshops for young astronomers, students and PhD students and by supporting scientific collaboration in joint projects and observational programs with astronomers throughout the EU.

On 21.09.2010 the Bulgarian Government included RACIO in the National Roadmap of Research Infrastructure (Resolution 692/21.09.2010 by the Council of Ministers).
